FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS COACHING?

Life coaching focuses on where you are, where you want to be, and how to get there. It teaches you to look at your life from a new perspective. Life coaching changes your mindset and encourages you to think outside of your box, which gives you the skills to overcome obstacles and reach your goals.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THERAPY?

Simply put, a coach looks at your present to help you create the future you desire, while a therapist looks at your past to help you manage your present. Therapy focuses more on behavioral or emotional problems by healing dysfunction and trauma from things that happened in your past. It is often tied with a diagnosis, which then becomes the focus of your counseling. In therapy, the therapist leads the conversation and directs you on what to work on. Life coaching, however, is a partnership between a coach and a client that helps the client become the best version of him/herself through the use of motivation, accountability, planning, troubleshooting and support. In life coaching, YOU lead the conversation. The focus is on the future, achieving higher goals, and creating your ideal life.

SHOULD I GET A LIFE COACH OR A THERAPIST?

You don’t have to choose - it’s totally fine to see both. If you are unsure, reach out to me or book a connection call. As a social and former therapist, I am trained to recognize and respect the boundary between life coaching and therapy.

WHY PAY FOR A COACH WHEN I CAN JUST ASK A FRIEND?

Friends and family are always a great source for advice, support, and encouragement. However, they may hold certain unconscious biases because of their own life experiences that they can project onto you and that could be counterproductive. I have been trained to set aside my personal biases and focus only on what is in your best interest. I also do continuous research so I can apply the most effective methods in my life coaching practice.
